Aprilia RS50 engine Workshop manual

BATTERY HYDROGEN GAS AND ELECTROLYTE WARNING The battery gives off explosive gases; keep cigarettes, flames and sparks away from the battery. Provide adequate ventilation when operating or recharging the battery. The battery contains sulphuric acid (eloctrolyte). Contact with the skin or the eyes may cause serious burns. Always wear tight fitting goggles and protective clothing when handling battery electrolyte. It is particularly important for you to protect your eyes, since even a minuscule amount of battery acid can destroy your vision. Should you accidentally get even the smallest amount of battery acid on your skin or eyes, immediately flush with large quantities of clear cool water and immediately seek professional medical attention. The electrolyte is poisonous. If the electrolyte is accidentally swallowed, drink large quantities of water or milk and then milk of magne- sia or vegetable oil. Seek professional medical attention immediately. KEEP BATTERIES AND ELECTROLYTE AWAY FROM CHILDREN. PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL INFORMATION Follow with care these recommendations when repairing, disassembling and reassembling the vehicle. The use of open flames is forbidden for any type of operation. Before commencing any service or inspection operation on the vehicle, switch off the engine and remove the key, wait until the engine and the exhaust system have cooled down and, if possible, raise the vehicle with the suitable equipment onto firm flat ground. In order to avoid burns, be careful not to touch any parts of the engine or exhaust systems which have not cooled down completely. The brakes also get quite hot in operation. Be sure that the brakes have cooled thoroughly before beginning any service operations. Avoid the temptation to hold any hardware or other part of the vehicle in your mouth while working on the vehicle. No part of the motorscooter is edible and some of the coatings, plastics, and platings, etc. are noxious if not outright toxic. If not expressly described, the reassembly of the units is carried out by reversing the order of operations. Handle fuel with the greatest caution. See gasoline warning. Never use fuel as a solvent for cleaning the vehicle. Disconnect the negative cable (-) from the battery when electric welding. When two or more persons are working together, make sure that each is working in safe conditions. Be sure that all the mechanics working on any one vehicle are thoroughly briefed as what each will be doing, and insure that one mechanic is responsible for insuring that all safety related items, such as tight- ening torques, are properly considered. WARNING

APRILIA AM6 Workshop manual PDF

General Information AM6 FUEL For information on the type of fuel to be used, please refer to the operation and maintenance manual provided with the vehicle. DANGER handle it with great care. DANGER only if an adequate air change is ensured. DANGER flames and whatever may cause the ignition or explosion of the fumes. CAUTION fuel or inhaling its fumes, use a length of tube without sucking with the mouth. CAUTION KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN : Fuel is highly flammable, and in certain conditions can even become explosive. Always : Avoid inhaling fuel fumes as they are toxic. Fuel should be handled in a closed environment : Never smoke near fuel stores or where fuel fumes may be present. Also avoid sparks, open : Avoid spilling fuel on the skin. Wear protective gloves when pouring it. To avoid ingesting : Do not dispose of fuel in the environment. GEARBOX OIL Use FC SAE 75W-90 oil or GEAR SYNTH oil. Alternatively, use brand name oil complying with or exceeding the API GL-4 specifications. CAUTION due to increased wear and tear of the moving parts. CAUTION CAUTION must be disposed of in compliance with the regulations in force. CAUTION after handling the lubricant. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN COOLANT The coolant contains 50% of distilled water and 50% of antifreeze, and is ideal at all operating temperatures. It also provides adequate protection against corrosion. Using the same mixture during the hot season will reduce evaporation and the necessity to top up. This will in turn slow the formation of deposits of mineral salts and keep the cooling system in working order. At temperatures below 0° C, check the cooling circuit at short intervals and if necessary add antifreeze to a maxi- mum concentration of 60%. Only use nitrite-free antifreeze and anticorrosive products ensuring protection down to -35° C. CAUTION spurt out and cause burns. CAUTION easily cause burns. CAUTION rinse abundantly with clean water and immediately seek medical attention. DANGER attention. Despite its toxicity, the coolant is particularly attractive to animals: be sure to seal the container to stop them from drinking it. : Insufficient lubrication or the use of unsuitable lubricants may result in irreparable damage : Do not overtighten the oil drain plug. Excessive tightening may damage the crankcase. : Used oil contains substances that are harmful to the environment. Even small quantities :To avoid serious skin damage due to prolonged contact with oil, accurately wash the hands : Never remove the filler cap while the engine is hot: the coolant is under pressure, and may : Some of the coolant components are flammable and burn with an invisible flame that may : Contact with the coolant may cause skin burns or irritation. In case of contact with the eyes, : Should the coolant be accidentally ingested, cause vomiting and immediately seek medical

BEFORE DISASSEMBLY - Remove dirt, mud, dust and foreign bodies from the vehicle before disassembling the components. - Use all the tools specifically designed for the vehicle. DISASSEMBLY - Before separating pipes or wires etc. (joints and junctions) mark each part with a unique marking. Each piece should be clearly marked for reassembly purposes. -Clean and wash the disassembled components with close to non-inflammable detergent. -Keep paired parts together, because normal wear and tear create a natural pairing. In some cases, where one part is replaced the other must also be replaced. Keep away from sources of heat. REASSEMBLY Never re-use a snap ring. If removed, replace it with a new ring. If a new ring is fitted, do not stretch more than necessary when fitting it to the shaft. Afterwards, check that the ring is properly fitted to the housing. Do not clean bearings with compressed air. IMPORTANT Bearings must rotate freely, without sticking or noise. Replace if necessary. - Use only ORIGINAL Aprilia SPARE PARTS. - Stick to the oil chart and recommended wearing parts. - Wherever possible, lubricate parts before reassembling them. - When tightening screws and nuts begin with the largest diameters, or inner nuts and screws, and tighten diagonally. Tighten each before finally tightening to the specified torque. - Always replace gaskets, gasket rings, snap rings, O- rings and split pins with new ones. - Clean all joint surfaces, oil seal edges and gaskets before reassembling.
